Highly regarded St Kilda assistant coach Corey Enright is returning to the Cattery.
The Saints on Monday announced that Ross Lyon's right-hand man is departing the club for Geelong - the club where he played 332 games and won three premierships.
Collingwood was a club in the mix for his services, and Enright had also thrown his hat in the ring for the senior coaching positions at Essendon and Carlton, but was ultimately unsuccessful.
A succession plan that would see Enright eventually usurp Lyon as top Saint had been mooted, but will ultimately not be enacted.
“I'm incredibly grateful to have worked alongside so many high-calibre coaches, players and staff during my five seasons at St Kilda,” Enright said, in announcing his departure.
“While this was a difficult decision, I believe the time is right for my next professional challenge and the opportunity to continue to develop my coaching philosophy.”
Enright's former grand final combatant-turned-Saints footy boss Lenny Hayes thanked Enright for his services.
“Corey has brought a high level of professionalism and exceptional football knowledge to his time at the Saints. We'd love to retain quality people like Corey forever; however, we also respect his desire to return to Geelong.
“Everyone at the Saints wishes Corey, his wife Renee and children Boh, Tex and Luna the best for this next chapter.”
