Hawthorn gun small forward Nick Watson said there was no chance of Josh Weddle departing the club, despite Essendon's aggressive advances.
Weddle is in talks with the Hawks on a contract extension that is set to lock him away until the end of 2030.
The Bombers were sniffing around for some premium talent, and put forward a seven-year, $10 million offer to the impressive athlete.
However, Weddle is expected to commit to the brown and gold.
The club has been contacted.
"Yeah, well, he's an absolute gun, so" Jack Ginnivan said before Watson cut him off ahead of the official club announcement.
"Not sure he's put pen to paper yet, so," Watson quipped.
"Obviously, we see it every day at training, but he brings the energy, he brings the love in the group."
"All that talk about Essendon and wanting to get him, but we know he's a Hawthorn boy.
"He's fast, powerful, can go through that mid now, can play anywhere, wing, half back, wherever you want him.
"He's a special player and a special talent, so hopefully he stays at the Hawks."
Weddle is expected to spend more time in the midfield in 2026, especially since Will Day is sidelined for the first half of the season.
The 21-year-old showcased his immense talents during Monday's match simulation against Geelong, featuring on all lines.
Weddle had 15 possessions and five marks, but made something happen with the ball in hand.
