Brisbane coach Chris Fagan can't make sense of Lachie Neale moving to Victoria as the two-time Brownlow Medallist weighs up his future.
Fagan and the Lions are taking a pragmatic approach over Neale's future, and understand if the unrestricted free agent opts to leave Queensland at the end of the year following a tumultuous off-season.
The gun midfielder's children returned to Western Australia, while he also has family in Adelaide, meaning a move to Collingwood, which has been heavily linked to Neale, is difficult to comprehend.
“That would be a bit of a head scratcher for me," Fagan said on SEN.
“But it's his business how he sees this and where he thinks the best location is for him in relation to his family.
“I guess it will be depending on whether he wants to be closer to his children, eg, go back to Perth where his children are.
“Or even Adelaide where he's got family and he is closer to Perth, and it's easier to get to and from that location.
“I don't like getting involved too much in these personal decision, they are way more complex than we all think from the outside looking in.
“I think I'll just leave it at that, I'm not too involved in the private lives of my players.
“It's pretty complex."
Fagan maintained Brisbane is still keen to keep Neale on its list but explained it would be difficult if he wants to depart.
“For starters, we definitely want to keep him. There's no question about that,” he added.
“The thing is that we don't have that much power in that decision because it's really something that is up to Lachie because he's a free agent.
“He knows we want him to stay and we'll be trying to make him an offer that will help him to stay."
