Hawthorn will accept the three match ban handed to defender Josh Weddle following tough collision during the Gold Coast Round 15 game.

Weddle connected with Gold Coast's Daniel Rioli during the second quarter of last Friday's game. Weddle's shoulder collided with Rioli's head and fractured his jaw, resulting in Rioli being removed from the game.

Speaking after the game, Suns coach Damien Hardwick confirmed that Rioli will have to take some time off.

"He's gone for scans, he'll miss some time. We'll let the doctors give the update on that," Hardwick said.

The incident was graded as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact.

Weddle will now not be able to return to the ground until Round 19, sitting out for the Hawks' upcoming games against GWS, Melbourne and Carlton.

He will next be available for Hawthorn's clash against Richmond on the 19th of July.
