Hawthorn great Luke Hodge is set for a one-game local football league stint with Mornington Peninsula second division side Devon Meadows next month.

Hodge, who retired from the AFL after 18 seasons and 346 games at the end of 2019, is set to pull the boots back on when Devon Meadows host Seaford on Saturday, June 18.

The Panthers currently sit in third place on the league ladder after six games, with the short-term acquisition of Hodge sure to buoy their chances for promotion.

The four-time premiership Hawk has stepped into media duties with Channel 7 since hanging up the boots, playing an integral part in the broadcaster's commentary team.

The two-time Norm Smith Medal winner is set to bring an unparalleled level of experience and poise to the MPNFL's second tier, having been noted as one of this century's greatest players.

โ€œHeโ€™s pretty fit at the moment, heโ€™s been doing a bit of work, heโ€™s pretty keen to have a bit of an impact so weโ€™ll probably look to play him around the midfield,โ€ Devon Meadows coach Ryan Hendy told News Corp.ย

โ€œI went and caught up with him on Saturday morning and he said heโ€™s really looking forward to it, he said heโ€™s chomping at the bit to have a kick.

โ€œHopefully he plays well and enjoys himself.โ€

Hodge led the Hawks to three premierships as captain of the club, who he joined in 2001 as the first overall selection in the National Draft.

Across his decorated career in brown and gold, the 37-year-old also amassed three All-Australian selections and two best and fairests.

The Panthers will host Seaford at Glover Reserve for Hodge's showcase appearance on June 18
