Emerging stars of the competition Finn Callaghan and Will Day have taken home maximum votes from their respective contests during Opening Round across the weekend.
With two games postponed due to the Tropical Cyclone Alfred, Hawthorn took centre stage on Friday night at the SCG against 2024 grand finalist Sydney.
Attempting to get the new campaign off to a flyer - in stark contrast to last year - Day and the Hawks took it to the hosts, playing an uncompromising brand of football that resulted in a 20-point victory.
The Hawthorn midfielder, who missed last year's finals series with an injured shoulder, put his pre-season work to the test and came out on top, amassing 26 disposals and three goals in a perfect performance.
Defender Karl Amon was also recognised for his efforts across halfback whilst Hawthorn captain James Sicily helped secure the all-important victory.
Sydney forward-turned defender Sam Wicks can hold his head high following his outing against Nick Watson, holding the dynamo forward goalless and to four touches.
Two days later, Callaghan produced a monster performance against the Pies, utilising his quick feet, clean hands and slick movement to tear up the fellow finals fancy.
The left-footer, who recently re-signed with the club for another four years, collected 33 disposals, two goals, seven clearances and 12 score involvements.
All-Australian defender Sam Taylor was equally as good, while veteran midfielder Josh Kelly was recognised for his performance.
