Former Geelong great Billy Brownless believes the Hawks are "good enough" to win the premiership this season.

Hawthorn sit in fourth position on the ladder with two weeks remaining in the season and are in a purple patch of form, with many claiming they are the only side capable of beating Richmond at the MCG.

And with four-time premiership winning coach Alastair Clarkson leading the charge, it is hard to rule them out.

“The Hawks are just coming along nicely,” Billy said on Triple M’s Rush Hour during The Midweek Rub.

"They are (capable of winning the flag).

“They’ve got Alastair Clarkson and they play finals ... they’ve played a lot of footy a lot of them and you wouldn’t want to play Hawthorn in the finals.”

Channel Seven commentator James Brayshaw agreed with Brownless that the Hawks could go all the way.

"They've (Hawthorn) got an X-Factor about them that not many other teams in that group (the contenders) have," Brayshaw said.
