Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has lashed out at media personality Kane Cornes after a tweet the former Power player sent out during Saturday night's game.

The Tigers were smashed from pillar to post for most of their clash with St Kilda, and trailed the Saints by 82 points at the main break.

During the second quarter - in which the Saints booted nine goals to zero - Cornes tweeted that Richmond had gotten ahead of themselves this season.

Hardwick touched on the tweet in his post-match press conference, and had something to say to the Port Adelaide premiership player, who was also his teammate for three seasons.

"Seriously, I'd love to see Kane. I'd really love to see Kane," Hardwick said post-game.

"Don't get me wrong, that's his job – he's there to write shit comments."

The Richmond coach didn't shy away from his side's performance however, and said they were smashed in the first half in and around the contest.

"Our contest method today was incredibly disappointing and that's something we'll be working on this week to make sure we rectify the result in that part of the game," Hardwick said.

"It's been pretty good throughout the year, but tonight and even a little bit last week (against Port Adelaide) it wasn't to the level we'd like.

"We've got eight days (before a home clash with the Brisbane Lions) so that's the one positive that we get out of it."
