Melbourne is starting to be included in conversations regarding Zak Butters as the Port Adelaide star weighs up his future beyond 2026.
The Demons will have two first-round picks at their disposal, but they might be able to sweeten the deal with Tom Sparrow, who has been linked to the pair of South Australian clubs.
A deal for Butters will immediately start at three first-round selections.
"I got rung today with good oil from a bloke who's fairly associated with Melbourne," Gerard Healy said on SEN.
"He says the good oil is that they think they're in a pretty good spot for Butters. He was arguing that they've got great draft picks.
"But when you raise the issue of Tom Sparrow going home, you throw Sparrow in with some draft picks and all of a sudden you may be able to package up a pretty enticing deal."
Former Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley said two-first round picks and Sparrow isn't too much.
Hinkley also noted that the Power will need to consider how they deal with Dougie Cochrane as well as future selections for academy and father-son prospects.
"But what Port's biggest concern is what it's going to cost to get Dougie Cochrane. That will be their biggest concern," he said.
"And the future picks that are coming with Louis Salopek and Zemes Pilot as well. They've got some good players coming so they need as many picks as they can, maybe not just in this year.
"Port's own pick at the moment, we don't know where it's going to land. It could land anywhere from 6-7 down to 13-14 themselves and that won't be enough to get Dougie Cochrane done, I don't think, if the new rules come into a play."
Sparrow was drafted from South Adelaide in the SANFL, and has ties to the state.
Adelaide showed interest in the 25-year-old two years ago, and given his unrestricted free agency status, both the Crows and Power would consider making a play for him.
