The Gold Coast Suns have handed young tall Mac Andrew a two-game suspension following a drink driving offence from late last year.
On December 31 the Suns released a statement confirming Andrew had been charged by Queensland Police for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Suns have since sanctioned Andrew following discussions between the club's leadership group, with the teenager to be unavailable for selection for the opening two rounds of the 2023 AFL season as well as any pre-season practice matches.
Andrew will also be required to partake in "a wide range of community activities including work placements, alcohol and driver education programs and assist with multicultural community programs", according to a club statement.
"It was the view of the leadership group that although Mac had been honest and shown remorse since the incident, the punishment handed down would ensure he understands the magnitude of his actions and hopefully assist him to make better life decisions, moving forward," the statement reads.
"These actions have been agreed to by Mac and are in addition to any sanctions handed down by the Queensland judicial system."
The Gold Coast Suns are scheduled to face the Swans and Bombers in the opening two rounds of the upcoming season, with Andrew to be eligible for selection for the club's Round 3 bout with Geelong at Metricon Stadium on Sunday, April 2.
Andrew made his debut for the Suns last year in Round 20 against West Coast and would feature in all four of the club's final matches of the 2022 season.
He joined the Suns as the fifth overall pick in the 2021 National Draft out of the Dandenong Stingrays.
