Essendon has made a play at Gold Coast veteran Touk Miller, despite the midfielder's contract expiring at the end of 2027.
The Bombers are hoping to get more experience through the door, whilst anticipating the departures of Zach Merrett and Jordan Ridley.
The latter wants to head to Queensland, and has met with the Suns and Brisbane in a bid for a fresh start.
According to AFL Media, Miller has received interest from several clubs, including Essendon.
He has links to the Bombers, playing with Matt Rosa, who is Essendon's list boss, and sharing three seasons in Queensland.
The heart-and-soul Suns player is understood to have begun contract talks beyond next year at the Suns.
The Bombers were previously interested in dual premiership Lion Lachie Neale, although he appears poised to join Collingwood as an unrestricted free agent.
Essendon also has its eye on Geelong's Jack Bowes, who was previously at the Gold Coast. Bowes could search for more senior opportunity, and join former teammate Brayden Fiorini as well as reunite with Rosa.
Miller was drafted by Gold Coast in 2014 with Pick 29, and has played 233 games for the club. He was co-captain from 2022-2024, a two-time club champion, a two-time best and fairest winner and the 2021 AFLCA player of the year.
Interest from rivals could come from Miller largely playing out of position this year due to the acquisition of Christian Petracca. The former Demon has pushed Miller from the midfield, playing in multiple roles in the front half.
It would be a huge blow if the Suns lost the 30-year-old, with the club set to lose Ben King to Hawthorn.
Bailey Humphrey is also considering his future at the club, following his desire last year to join Melbourne.
