The GWS Giants have secured another young talent until at least 2027, extending medium forward Cody Angove on a two-year contract.

The 24th pick in the 2024 National Draft debuted in Round 9 against Geelong and kicked the first goal of his career against Richmond in Round 12. However, the standout game of Angove's short career so far was in the Giants' win over Carlton, where he garnered 15 disposals, created five inside 50s and was involved in six scores.

GWS' executive general manager of football, Jason McCartney, said it was fantastic to lock away another of the club's talented youngsters.

"We're thrilled to extend Cody's time at the Giants,โ€ McCartney said. โ€œCody is a talented young kid with a great work ethic and we see him as a long-term player for our club.ย From the moment he arrived he has shown a great desire to learn and improve and we're excited about his potential."

โ€œHis early performances, both in the pre-season and then through the VFL, backed up everything we believed about him when we drafted him and it's been great to see him already show his talent at AFL level.

โ€œHaving Cody recommit alongside a host of other recent re-signings is further testament to the belief our group has about what we can achieve as a club, both now and in the future.โ€

Angove has been one of four first-year players to take the field for the Giants this season, with their draft selections from the past several years making instant impacts, such as ruckman Nick Madden, who was excellent with 26 hitouts against Port Adelaide on Saturday night

Angove's debut in Round 9 came off of dominant form in the VFL, where he averaged 22.8 disposals and over five marks per game.

Angove was recently sidelined with a stress fracture in his back, a timeline on his return is yet to be set. The Giants have a must-win clash against Brisbane on Saturday afternoon as they hope to cement themselves in the top eight.
