GWS defender Connor Idun has shut down speculation about out-of-contract captain Toby Greene's future.

Speaking ahead of the Giants' Round 10 clash with West Coast, Idun pointed to Greene's loyalty when answering media questions about his future.

“Check the weather, he won't go back, no way,” Idun said.

“He's into his spearfishing at the moment, so he'd need a three-layer wetsuit if he goes down there. I don't think he'd like it.

“I do find it funny, especially the Toby one. He's the most loyal bloke I've ever met, so he hasn't spoken about it at the club. No one will ask him, but we love the service he's provided.

“He's our skipper, and we all love him, so as I said, he'll check the weather and stay in Sydney for sure.”

GWS scraped over the line against Essendon on Saturday to lift its record to 4-5, but despite an up-and-down start to 2026, Idun said Greene's future, alongside fellow out-of-contract staples Stephen Congilio and Jesse Hogan, has not impacted the playing group.

“To be honest, apart from seeing it on social media like about Toby and Jesse, I wouldn't know who's out of contract,” Idun said.

“I think we handle it pretty well, just focus on week by week, as cliché as that is. We're trying to make finals, trying to win it all this year, so that's all anyone cares about.”

Idun's comments follow GWS Head of Talent Adrian Caruso, indicating to Zero Hanger that the club is confident it can show Greene and co. that success is around the corner.

"I think for someone like a Toby and Jesse, they're looking to have success, so their decision is going to be made around if I'm re-signing for two, three years, am I going to have the success at the Giants as opposed to leaving and go and have success elsewhere?" Caruso told Zero Hanger last week.

"So we need to show them that we're going to be good and hopefully that's through the development of our younger players and the consistency of our older guys."
