Geelong big man Nathan Vardy will miss the next six weeks after suffering a foot ligament sprain during last weekend's VFL practice match.

The 24-year-old, who has struggled with injuries throughout his career, injured his foot when an opponents' knee landed on him during a marking contest.

“This was just an unlucky incident during the game,” Geelong general manager of football Steve Hocking said.

“The good news is that there is no surgery required and we expect this injury to heal over the next month. Nathan will be in a boot for a couple of weeks as he continues to heal from this injury.”

Vardy has managed just 24 senior games for Geelong since making his debut in Round 9, 2011.
