Geelong have decided against appealing Gary Rohan's one-game suspension at the AFL Tribunal, with the premiership forward now confirmed to miss Sunday's Round 5 clash with West Coast.

The Cats had initially filed a challenge of the Match Review Officer's charge for Rough Conduct, with Rohan's tackle on Hawthorn defender Changkuoth Jiath graded as Careless Conduct, Medium Impact and High Contact.

Instead of fightin the charge, the club decided on Thursday morning they would not contest the ban.

"With a Monday game and the short timeline between being notified of the MRO's charges and the deadline to make a decision, the Club has decided to accept the sanction following further legal consultation throughout Wednesday and again on Thursday morning," Cats football boss Simon Lloyd said in a club statement.

Rohan will be available to return in Round 6 when Geelong face the Sydney Swans.

His absence will force a second change for the Cats come selection, with defender Jed Bews sidelined due to concussion.

The Cats will name their Round 5 squad at 6:20pm (AEST) on Thursday.
