Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands' return from the injury that derailed his 2016 season has suffered a setback, with the club confirming he has sustained a minor calf strain.

Sandilands will miss the start of the JLT Community Series and will train with the club's rehabilitation group for the next three to five weeks.

But the club is hopeful he will be fit for Fremantle's round one clash with Geelong at Domain Stadium.

The Dockers' opening JLT Community Series match is against West Coast on February 25.
