Fremantle has a decent haul of picks they can use in the upcoming draft to load up on their future, with their first selection coming at Pick 13.

The Dockers have a quartet of emerging youngsters who are already tied to the club, with Toby Whan and Tom Phillips heading the group.

Along with Pick 13, the WA club will also possess 29, 38 (tied to Richmond), 47 and 65, which they can use to bolster their versatile midfield stocks, according to Craft of the Draft analyst Jonty Ralphsmith.

Whan, who is linked to Fremantle through the NGA, is playing in the WAFL for South Fremantle as an outside player, racking up big numbers in the reserves competition, and for WA in the U18s Championships.

"Got a bevy of club-tied talent, but they will look to add some outside midfielders to complement Andrew Brayshaw and Caleb Serong," Ralphsmith said.

"He's (Whan) someone who can work with someone like Hayden Young and the role he has," Craft of the Draft's Mitch Keating said.

"They're going to have Serong and Brayshaw for a long haul, but they still need to worry about when one of them is resting elsewhere, or on the bench, who's stepping in?

"And how do they mirror the quality of talent they've got now?

"You look at your Whan's and your Phillips, not saying they'll reach the heights of three top-10 picks the Dockers have picked up, but to get the right players in."

Keating also went on to say the Dockers should target medium-sized defenders

"They've had such a rock-solid backline under Justin Longmuir," Keating said.

"The thing with that is that Alex Pearce and Luke Ryan are in the second half of their careers, and they've got to find the next names to take over from them.

"They need that next wave coming through."

Ralphsmith suggested Elliott Duffield, Noah Daw and Xavier Taylor are some prospects "that come to mind" who could help bolster the Dockers' defensive unit.

But as all interstate clubs do, they tend to look at the local talent, which Keating named a few that could be on Fremantle's radar come draft night.

"Fred Rodriguez, right off the top," Keating says.

"He'd be a nice piece to add, but at Pick 13, it's not the highest of chances that he's there for them, particularly with that (selection) pushing back a bit.

"Sam Grlj is another one... nice pace on the ball, and can be that inside-outside player. You can throw him at half-back.

"And Harley Barker, more as a wingman."
