Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir believes assistant coach Jaymie Graham is ready for the rigours of an AFL top job as Carlton have already come calling.

The Blues put together a list of candidates, which included Graham, as they search to replace Michael Voss who resigned last month.

Graham, who narrowly missed out on the Collingwood vacancy filled by Craig McRae, already went through the process with Graham Wright, and will do so again at Ikon Park.

Wright is the CEO of Carlton, and is one of four people charged with selecting the club's next coach.

"I think he's got a great resume and ticks a lot of boxes, and he's got my blessing to talk to whoever he needs to talk to. I think he can walk and chew at the same time," Longmuir said.

"He has great relationships with his players, he's a really strong educator, and I think he's got a well-rounded resume in terms of coaching his own team, but also coaching different lines at different footy clubs and seeking different cultures to work around and be involved in.

"There's probably not too many better resumes out there, I wouldn't have thought."

After a four-year playing career at West Coast (2005-2008, 37 games), Graham began his coaching apprenticeship with St Kilda in 2012, and returned to the Eagles during their premiership era, helping claim the flag in 2018.
He also led WAFL team East Perth as the senior coach before joining the Dockers ahead of the 2022 season after he missed out on the Pies job.
Graham is working closely with the Fremantle forward line, and previously was the backline coach at West Coast, whilst also filling in for Longmuir and Adam Simpson as caretaker when they were unavailable through illness.

He opted not to pursue the West Coast coaching vacancy, which was ultimately filled by Andrew McQualter at the end of 2024, reiterating that while he still aspired to become a senior coach, he was enjoying his role at Fremantle and wasn't in any rush.
