For the second consecutive year, Essendon gun Zach Merrett is understood to be heading for the door whilst under contract, but the Bombers may have eased on their desire to keep him in the red and black.
Hawthorn came extremely hard last year, offering three first-round picks - admittedly in the mid-to-late teens - for Merrett, which was swiftly denied. With his value arguably plummeting in comparison, hindsight would suggest Essendon would've benefitted from a move last year.
But looking ahead, which clubs would be in the market for the 30-year-old?
Hawthorn has maintained its interest in Merrett since last year, while Geelong has entered the conversation in a shock twist.
But could Melbourne or Adelaide throw the ball at the stumps? Both clubs are in need of midfield power, and Merrett provides that in spades.
The intriguing element of this trade watch is Merrett's contract, and which sides can facilitate a deal that would satisfy Essendon.
Hawthorn
The Hawks have made it clear they want to improve their on-ball brigade, even though Will Day's return has heightened the club's premiership chances.
Day and Jai Newcombe working in tandem has been crucial to Hawthorn's rise, but would adding Merrett help? You'd like to think so.
The acquisition of the Bomber would free up Day to split his time up forward, whilst also providing opportunity in the midfield for the next rung of midfielders, including the much-improved Josh Ward and Cam Mackenzie, as well as spurts from forwards Dylan Moore and Nick Watson.
Conor Nash will also be a watch given he is dealing with a neck injury, albeit the club is confident he can pull through, even if it is next year.
Hawthorn currently holds Picks 16, 26, 27 and 34, and should be more than willing to hand over a pair of selections to get the deal done.

Last year, depth on-baller Henry Hustwaite was floated as part of the trade deal, and could re-enter as part of the negotiations.
A win-win for both clubs and player, with Hustwaite deserving more AFL opportunity, but behind many at Hawthorn. He'd slot straight into Essendon's midfield.
Defender Jack Scrimshaw could also enter conversations with the Bombers set to lose Jordan Ridley to a Queensland club.
