Former Geelong president Craig Drummond is tipped to be named the new AFL chair, replacing Richard Goyder in the role, after the Commission "unanimously endorsed" him to join the Commission.
Drummond is set to take over from Goyder ahead of the 2026 season, despite speculation that the latter was considering a play at another term.
The likes of Former Collingwood president Jeff Browne, former Western Bulldogs president Peter Gordon, and former AFLPA CEP Peter Allen had been linked to the position.
"Our national game is in great shape, but we can't afford to stand still," Goyder said.
"The Commissioners and I have every confidence that when my term ends in March, Craig is the right person to lead a new era of growth and engagement with our fans, our clubs, and our broadcast partners.
"Craig has a deep understanding of football, combined with proven business and leadership capability.
"His contribution to the game and his professional track record will make him an outstanding addition to the AFL Commission."
Goyder has been with the AFL since September 2011 after a six-year stint with Fremantle. He was appointed to the Commission, and then succeeded Mike Fitzpatrick as the chairman in 2017.
As for Drummond, he was involved with the Cays since 2011 as a member of the board, before being elevated to the presidency in 2021. He walked away at the end of 2024.
Drummond's nomination will be presented to AFL Clubs at the Commission's March AGM, and the Chair will be formally appointed by the Commission.
Goyder commended the likes of club presidents John Olsen, Andrew Wellington, Dr Sonja Hood, Andrew Bassatt and Andrew Pridham, along with AFL Commissioners, who made up the Nominations Committee.
