Former Collingwood President Eddie McGuire is urging the AFL to put in place a taunting rule after the constant niggling tactics by Sydney players on second-year superstar Nick Daicos.

The star Pie was immediately targeted from the opening bounce by Swans' players, including by his opponent Ryan Clarke after kicking a goal, further escalating tensions.

Brayden Maynard, Issac Quaynor, Josh Daicos, Brody Mihocek, Tom Papley, Will Hayward, Marc Sheather, Ryan Clarke, and Tom McCartin were fined a combined $10,000 for their part in Round 8 melee.

Speaking on Channel Nine's Footy Classified, McGuire affirmed his stance on bringing in a taunting rule, similar to that brought in by the NFL in 2022.

"This was disgraceful on the weekend, we're sick of it, you can't come back at people," McGuire said.

"And in fact, you wouldn't believe it, Josh Daicos got a $1,000 fine for protecting his brother from being attacked by five Swans.

"Collingwood players shouldn't have been fined. There should be a 50m penalty and a free kick.

"There's no sportsmanship, it's pure bullying, it's a waste of time."

The NFL has taken a hard stance on any form of taunting on players who commit "any flagrant acts or remarks that deride, mock, bait, or embarrass an opponent."

Speaking to Fox Footy about the tactics to get under Daicos' skin, Swans midfielder Errol Gulden said it was a collective effort by the coaching staff and players.

"He's one of the best players in the competition. If we let him do his own thing, he'll win them the game," Gulden said.

"It was definitely a focus for us going into the game that it was a full team effort to stop him, and I felt that was something we were somewhat able to reduce his impact on the game."

Collingwood sits on top of the ladder and will look to extend their winning streak to five games on Sunday when they take on GWS at the MCG to conclude round nine.
