Barry Cable, a former North Melbourne player and Australian Football Hall of Fame member, is facing trial after being sued over allegations he sexually abused a teenager during his playing career.
Cable, who's identity was originally suppressed, is accused of abusing the Perth teenager while she was aged between 12 and 17, between the years of 1968 and 1973.
The 79-year-old has never been charged and denies all accusations, but will face a five-day civil trial. The alleged victim is seeking damages from the former player, with legal action having begun in 2019.
Across his playing career, Cable earned many accolades as a two-time VFL and four-time WAFL premiership player. The 79-year-old is also a member of North Melbourne's Team of the Century.
Following his retirement in 1979, Cable coached three clubs across the VFL and WAFL.
The trial, held in the Western Australian District Court, commences on Wednesday.
