Russell spent time at Essendon, Port Adelaide, Hawthorn and Carlton during his time at clubland, and is now assisting AFL players on an individual level.

On SEN, he ranks his top 10 preparers during his time as a high-performance coach in the AFL.

"I think the best description of Cripps is he explores the corners of every facet of preparation about improving himself as a player and person.

"He's got an insatiable appetite for self-improvement and helping others. That's one of the key differences. He never sees himself as the finished product. So humble and level in his thinking that he keeps chasing. And he has chased all around the world in a lot of different areas.

"He knows his body inside-out. He has unbelievable emotional control. Trying to find areas in physiology to improve."
