The Melbourne Cup carnival comes to its crescendo this weekend with Mackinnon Stakes Day wrapping up what has been an incredible carnival with some terrific omen bets.
As we bow out for another spring, let's do our best to go out on a high and find a few more cheeky omen bets to end Melbourne Cup week.
Race 1
Hosier- Carlton
The navy blue with just a dash of white that the Williams family have become synonymous within racing should be a sight for sore eyes for Blues fans. Hosier looks like one of the best bets of the day and Carlton fans haven't been on a sure thing for a while.
Silent Sovereign- West Coast
Yellow and Blue silks only suit one club. West Coast fans can get their morning off to a winning start if their colours salute in the first.
Race 2
Sound- GWS
While the predominantly purple silks of Sound would appeal to Fremantle fans, GWS' song lends them to taking ownership of this one for the day. It would be a "big, big sound from the West of the town" should Sound win here.
Race 3
Shibli- Geelong
The white hoop going across the front of a navy blue chest wouldn't go astray as a potential Geelong clash jumper. It's been years since the Cats had a decent second kit and Shibli winning could inspire a new design for the Cats?
Race 4
O'President- Hawthorn
With the news that Jeff Kennett may be stepping down as Hawthorn president earlier than expected, Hawks fans may want to celebrate or commemorate his most recent tenure. No doubt a few times Jeff has made Hawks fans say "Oh, President".
Jimmy The Bear- Geelong
Jimmy Bartel may well be one of football's best-looking characters. But when the Brownlow Medalist decided to grow out his beard in 2016 to raise awareness for domestic violence, there was an element of "bear" to Bartel's appearance.
Race 5
Only Words- Fremantle
In the same silks as Sound, the purple dominated kit of Only Words can only be an omen for one club.
Race 6
September Run- Melbourne
She let Melbourne fans down last week, but now she gets a shot at redemption. While Melbourne's September run did go off without a hitch they could be a tad forgiving of this mare after their years of heartache.
Race 7
Sinawann- Sydney
It may be a bit of a bow to draw but Sinawann isn't all that far off from Swan. But that's ok if you don't think that is reason enough, we have more. This runner is from Ireland and Sydney fans would still have a soft spot for the Irish after Tadgh Kennelly's incredible career.
Race 8
Zaaki- Melbourne
Draped in the red and the blue, Zaaki is the leading contender for this years Mackinnon Stakes, just as the Dees were for the premiership. The red and blue saluted in the Melbourne Cup, can it do so again here?
Colette- Richmond
The Tigers seemingly go up another level in the wet. They become a much tougher team to beat and they weren't all that easy when conditions were good. The same could be said for Collette, she just loves getting her toe into the ground.
Race 9
Hawker Hurricane- Hawthorn
It's all in the name with this one. Doesn't take much to figure out what connects the horse and club.
Lowanna Magic- Western Bulldogs
The red, white and blue striped across the front of the silks will catch the eye of any one-eyed Bulldogs supporter.
