St Kilda is a club that has publicly stated it is after ready-made talent and the Saints certainly aren't concerned with putting noses out of joint while they do it.

The bayside club was the talk of the town last trade period, snaring the likes of Jack Silvagni and Tom De Koning from Carlton, Sam Flanders from Gold Coast and Liam Ryan from West Coast.

But who will the Saints target this off-season?

Charlie Ballard

A Ballard ballad could be just what Saints fans want to hear right now.

All-Australian key defender Cal Wilkie is still playing brilliant football, and Silvagni is having a strong first season in his new colours.

But when it comes to towering 200cm or taller key forwards, St Kilda is left short changed down back.

Wilkie (191cm) and Silvagni (194cm) both play above their heights, however, Ballard (196cm) could help take down those taller forwards. While also allowing Wilkie and Silvagni to peel off, intercept and kick start the Saints' counter-attacking chains.

Ballard is contracted until the end of 2029, but he has fallen out of favour at Gold Coast and could be searching for more opportunities to restart his career.

He is a more than serviceable key defender who can lock down opponents. And at 26, he is in the perfect age bracket the Saints are after to help the club climb back to premiership contention for the first time since the start of the 2010s.
