Essendon small forward Orazio Fantasia has sustained a quad injury, according to SEN's Sam Edmund.

The forward emerged as one of few stars in his side's loss against Sydney Swans over the weekend, booting four goals. Whilst the severity of his injury is unclear, it seems that Fantasia may be watching from the sidelines for the next few weeks.

“There’s been a lot of talk about Orazio Fantasia in the wake of Friday night, but unfortunately he’s got another injury,” Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

“It’s a quad injury this time. He played out the game and played mightily well, but in the wake of that he’s cooled down, it’s tightened up, they’ve had some assessment of the injury and it looks like he’s going to miss the Fremantle game and possibly even longer.

“We spoke to (Essendon GM) Dan Richardson moments ago, he’s going to assess the severity of it, but it doesn’t sound great for Orazio who’s battled a lot of injuries.

“There might be a strain or a tear there, they’re not saying publicly yet.”

Essendon may be without Fantasia when they host Fremantle at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.
