Essendon is looking into signing delisted Fremantle veteran Bailey Banfield.
The AFL is only one day into free agency and already four players have moved clubs, while a host of others are contemplating their immediate futures.
One of those players weighing up their future is Banfield whose nine-season career at Fremantle ended during the week.
The Bombers are keen to add quality people, experience and versatility to their young list and Banfield would fit the billing.
The 28-year-old has experience playing as a defender, tagger and forward across his 119 games at the Dockers. While he recently won the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award.
AFL Media is reporting that Essendon met with Banfield this week to discuss him continuing his career in Victoria. The former Docker is keen and could slot into a rookie list position at Tullamarine.
Brisbane defender Keidean Coleman is eager for a change of scenery, again according to AFL Media.
The 26-year-old defender was once a key part of the Lions' counterattack from defence. However, an ACL injury to start 2024 followed by falling out of the senior side and missing all three premierships has left Coleman eager for a move.
Coleman is signed on until the end of 2027, so an enticing trade for Brisbane would have to be put forward.
No suitors as of yet have been named.
The dashing defender has played 79 games for the club since he was taken with Pick 37 in the 2019 National Draft.
St Kilda has signed veteran Dan Butler on a one-year extension.
The 30-year-old has fallen out of favour at the Saints across the past two seasons, playing 16 games total.
The small forward has received a reprieve and has another year to prove his worth in St Kilda's attack.
