While admitting he still needs to see another month of results, Essendon legend Matthew Lloyd has suggested that Gold Coast recruit Brandon Ellis could be closer to winning a premiership with his new club than at Richmond.

Speaking on Channel Nine's Footy Classified, fellow panelist Caroline Wilson asked Lloyd if Ellis and the Suns were better positioned for a flag tilt than the Tigers.

And Lloyd said if the Tigers don't correct their form slump, it might come true.

“Give me another month and (Ellis) could quite possibly be (closer to a flag at Gold Coast than Richmond),” Lloyd said on Footy Classified.

Lloyd was also questioned by Kane Cornes about the reasoning for the prediction and he said it came down to one factor: hunger.

“Give me another month and if some of these players from Richmond continue to play like they don’t have the hunger like they do, Brandon could quite possibly be closer (to a flag at the Suns),” he said.

Richmond suffered their first loss in over a year in Round 3 to Hawthorn by 32 points, after playing a dismal draw the previous Round against Collingwood 36-36.

Meanwhile, Gold Coast have been among the league standouts since the season restart, winning both games against West Coast and Adelaide by large margins and currently are third on the AFL ladder.

Richmond face St Kilda this weekend at Marvel Stadium while Gold Coast will face Fremantle at Metricon Stadium
