Geelong ruck/forward option Nathan Vardy has struggled with injury and more recently opportunity throughout his career and looks certain to seek a fresh start this trade period, particularly after falling behind the likes of Zac Smith, Rhys Stanley and Mark Blicavs at the Cats.

Several clubs have shown interest in Vardy, most notably, Port Adelaide and West Coast and the Eagles have now reportedly emerged as the front runners to secure the 25-year-old.

AFL Trade radio reports that Vardy toured the Eagles' facilities on Wednesday.

Should West Coast sign Vardy, it would highly that Drew Petrie will join the Eagles, despite recently being linked with a move West.

However, he may still be in their plans in a coaching capacity.

Vardy has played a total of 25 for Geelong over seven seasons.
