Richmond legend and chief executive Brendon Gale has knighted Dustin Martin as one of the five greatest Tigers to ever handle the Sherrin.
Martin won his second Norm Smith Medal in the Tigers' grand final triumph on Saturday. In his decade of playing, Martin has been named an All Australian three times and won the Brownlow Medal in 2017.
Martin kicked four goals and had 22 disposals in the grand final. In receiving the Norm Smith medal, Martin follows in the footsteps of Gary Ayres, Andrew McLeod and Luke Hodge as the only dual medal winners.
Plus, Gale says he doesn’t think Martin is done climbing the ladder of the greats.
"Two Norm Smiths, a Brownlow, two premierships, he's got to be in the top five, I reckon. And these are really tough times to win premierships. We're not done. Why don't we wait until the end of their careers?”
With his iconic haircut and neck tattoos in addition to his on-field play - especially his knack for fending off tackles - Martin is an icon for this Tigers team looking to build a dynasty. Who knows what his legacy will be when all things are said and done.
