Sydney has received Pick 36 as compensation for Joel Amartey's departure.

Amartey joined Carlton as a free agent.

“From the passionate fanbase to seeing the momentum Carlton got from the middle of this year, combined with knowing the quality people they have at the club, it made it an easy decision in the end," Amartey said.

“Off the field, I like to bring my energy around the club. I really want to bring that and earn the respect of not only the players and staff at Carlton but also every Blues fan.

“I have felt so welcomed already; I can already see how great the environment is here and can't wait for pre-season to roll around and get to work.”

The Swans will have Picks 35, 36, 48 and 70 heading into November's draft (as it stands).

The new Blue's manager explained the reasoning behind his decision to move clubs.

"It's been an interesting year," James Pitcher of Odyssey Sports Management said on AFL Trade Radio.

"Obviously, he missed the last third of the season with an Achilles injury, probably when things started to get moving in the decision-making process with Carlton.

"He's forever indebted to the Swans, but it was too good an opportunity to pass up, coming down and playing with some old friends in Ollie Florent and Will Hayward.

"I think a combination (of opportunity as well as the offer). The financial offer was greater than Sydney, but throw in the opportunity, and you can see he's going to play at the Blues going forward alongside Harry McKay.

"You are a little bit sheltered away in Sydney.

"But he's leant on his two friends, Ollie Florent and Will Hayward. They've seen the best and the worst, but he's leant on them for advice.

"He's at the stage of his career where he's ready to take that chance with both hands."

Amartey played 76 games for the Swans after he was drafted via rookie intake ahead of the 2018 season.

He's kicked 114 goals and led the club in 2024 with 43 majors, which is his only full season at AFL level.

Amartey has dealt with back-to-back injury-plagued seasons, limiting his output to 23 matches and 41 goals.

After overcoming his achilles injury in the back half of 2026, he was overlooked for the preliminary final clash against Fremantle, with Dean Cox opting to keep Hayden McLean in the senior side.
