Melbourne have confirmed that star Clayton Oliver will be sidelined for the "short-term" after suffering a hamstring strain.

The Demon underwent scans after Round 10's loss to Port Adelaide, with the star managing to play on throughout the game despite being seen grabbing his leg.

Melbourne's High Performance Manager Selwyn Griffith confirmed the extent of Oliver's injury on Monday, confirming that he will be unavailable for the short term.

“Clayton had some soreness at the end of the game and following a clinical assessment from the physios and the medical team, scans have shown that he's got a hamstring strain,” Griffith said to club media.

“At this early stage, we anticipate Clayton won't be available in the short term.

“His return to play will ultimately be guided by his ability to deal with increase loads and reconditioning. As such, we will have greater clarity as Clayton progresses through his program.”

In better news for the Demons, Jake Bowey has been cleared of serious injury after being substituted from Round 10 after suffering a corkie to his calf.

“We tried to get him going [during the game], but he just felt like he couldn't perform to his role,” Griffith said.

“He's worked incredibly hard over the last 48 hours to get on top of that and was able to train with the group today.”
