Essendon forward Joe Daniher fronted the media on Thursday morning, and spoke on his trade request to Sydney and the move that didn't eventuate.

Daniher asked to move to the Swans on the eve of the trade period, but the Bombers famously held out on sending the 25-year-old to New South Wales, and held him to the final year of his contract.

Speaking to the media, Daniher admitted a move to Sydney would have been "the best move for me to have a fresh start," although said he understood the trade wasn't a sure thing and may not have happened.

Now that he's a Bomber for 2020, Daniher says he's committed to the cause.

"I just want to get out and train and train really hard and provide some real good leadership for this football club," Daniher said.

"The last few years have been really difficult from an injury point of view and I felt a new start might help that. It's not to be and here I am."

Daniher becomes a restricted free agent at the end of next season, but didn't want to touch on his playing future for 2021 and beyond.

"[There will be a] lot of speculation and hypotheticals about what next year looks like but the priority for me is getting out there and putting on a really good performance for this football club," Daniher added.
