Geelong has revealed star midfielder Patrick Dangerfield, has been playing hurt for the past three weeks.

Dangerfield has still recorded solid numbers, collecting 27, 31 and 21 disposals in the last three rounds, however, has not had the same impact he had last season.

The reigning Brownlow Medalist copped a knee to the ribs during the Cats' 86-point win over Hawthorn on Easter Monday, which has hampered him in recent weeks.

Fairfax has reported he has been playing with a protective rubber guard for the past two matches.

However, Geelong football manager, Steve Hocking, told Fairfax Dangerfield is managing his recovery and is expected to play against the Suns at Metricon Stadium this Saturday night.

"My understanding is he is not in any doubt unless something changes, but I have been here for the last two days and heard no discussion of that," Hocking said.

"I genuinely would be surprised if he didn't play. I am tipping if anyone approaches Patrick about this, I know what the answer will be."

"There is no player that goes into each game feeling 100 per cent fit," Dangerfield said after Sunday's loss to Collingwood.

"It is just about managing yourself the best you can and putting yourself in a position to perform, not just roll up and contribute."

Dangerfield played every game for Geelong last year in his debut season for the Cats.
