Carlton coach Michael Voss has declared the harsh assessment from former captain Sam Docherty is another example of the culture problems at Ikon Park.
Docherty's expletive-laden voice message to media personality and ex-AFL player Dan Gorringe highlighted his frustration following a 63-point loss to Sydney.
Voss responded on Tuesday: "Only probably because people keep asking me about last year's best and fairest speech and culturally we defeat ourselves, I just felt that was an example of that.
"For us to have a productive conversation, I think we all need to know we're not going to get mixed between the old and the new.
"We're new and that's the way we're going forward."
Docherty's spray was aired on the Dan Does Footy podcast, where he said: ""Basically what happens, and exactly what happened (Thursday) night , is the same s--t that happens every other game.
"But then they start losing contest, they get under pressure, they can't get a hold of the ball and then they're a f---ing s--tshow."
Since, Docherty has been removed from a club function before the Richmond clash on Thursday.
Voss attempted to move on from the line of questioning regarding Docherty's comments, and said he'd remain focused on Thursday's job.
"I'll move forward with the team I've got because a lot of the stuff becomes he said, she said and I could spend a lot of time talking about that here," Voss added.
"But what I'd prefer to talk about is the game and we're beginning again, that's what you do need to know, so I'll be pretty strong on that through these conversations and anything I talk with the players.
"I don't spend a hell of a lot of time focusing (on) or sharing what others say about us. What I do is reinforce the behaviours we need."
When Voss was pressed once again, he said: "We'll move on to what we need to do, which is focus on the game this weekend."
Past president of the Carltonians and Carlton life member, Vince Loccisano, called the club's reaction to the saga "bewildering".
"It's attempting to silence someone or punish them for expressing an opinion," Loccisano said on 3AW.
"What are they going to do next? Ban 100,000 members from attending Carlton matches because they've been critical of the club over the last 30 years?
"It should've been left alone. Or made light of at this function on Thursday night. The way they're going about it is only going to make things worse for them because no they're showing themselves up to be extremely sensitive to criticism, and behaving almost like a dictatorship would who tries to censor the people they are meant to represent."
Voss also said he hadn't thought about the reports regarding Craig McRae's links to the club last year.
Running defender Adam Saad will miss Thursday's clash with a hamstring injury, opening the door for Matt Carroll or Lachie Cowan to fill his role.
