Adelaide have opened up discussions with senior coach Matthew Nicks in regards to a contract extension past the end of next year.
Nicks joined the Crows on a three-year deal ahead of the 2020 season following the departure of Don Pyke, who served as coach for four years prior to departing West Lakes amid difficult circumstances.
The Crows have won 10 of their 39 games under Nicks' reign, with the former Port Adelaide and GWS assistant enduring a difficult debut campaign as senior coach of Adelaide last year.
The Crows claimed the wooden spoon following a winless run in the opening 14 rounds of the year, with 2021 now showing plenty of promise for the club's future are they look to embark on a journey back to premiership contention.
Set to enter the third and final year of his contract, Nicks and the Crows have opened discussions surrounding an extension for the young coach to continue his place in the Adelaide hot seat.
Speaking to News Corp,ย Crows CEO Tim Silvers revealed negotiations have been underway, holding some expectation to the idea of Nicks inking a new deal in the coming months.
โThese things can take time but weโve started discussions and weโve shown our intent,โ Silvers said.
โMatty is an outstanding, great leader and has genuine buy-in from the group.
โI look forward to him being a long-term coach for the club.โ
The Crows will enter 2022 as an outside chance to reach the September action, having managed a 15th-place finish this year given their 7-15 record.
The club have been buoyed by an exciting off-season however, with Swans gun Jordan Dawson joining Adelaide during the trade period.
The Crows also re-signed 28 players in 2021, and will carry Picks 4, 33, 75 and 80 at Wednesday's National Draft.
