SEN SA Breakfast host Andrew Hayes has heard that a number of clubs have offered number two draft pick Jack Lukosius deals that would see him depart from the Gold Coast at the end of his rookie year.

The South Australian forward was taken by the Suns in the most recent draft, and given the recent exodus of players from the team, Hayes believes rumours are suggesting clubs are already opening their cheque books.

"There are a few rumours floating around that Lukosius has already been offered what he could make at the end of his second year at the Gold Coast," Hayes told SEN SA Breakfast.

"I heard it was a Melbourne club and it was seriously, seriously good money.

"He hasn't even played a game of football yet."

Former Port Adelaide midfielder Kane Cornes said this kind of move can backfire.

"Some of the numbers being thrown at these players is ridiculous," he said.

"We saw it with Tom Boyd. The Bulldogs paid way more than what he is actually worth.

"If I was Adelaide or Port Adelaide I'd be throwing big bucks at Rankine and Lukosius too, clubs will do what they have to do."

Gold Coast lost both captains in the trade period with Steven May and Tom Lynch exiting the club, while Aaron Hall, Kade Kolodjashnij and Jack Scrimshaw.
