As the Anzac Day game is approaching between Essendon and Collingwood, I wondered what it would look like if both teams merged into one, who would make the final best 23 squad?

The squad, comprising of the 2026 team lists, had 15 Collingwood and eight Essendon players, headlined by stars like Nick Daicos, Zach Merrett, Josh Daicos and more.

Read below what my thoughts are on the best 23 players from both squads ahead of their Anzac Day clash...

Interchange

Int: Jye Caldwell, Scott Pendlebury, Archie Roberts, Jeremy Howe, Beau McCreery

The interchange is filled with many players who can play different positions, beginning with all-time great Scott Pendlebury, who couldn't be left out of the squad. Jye Caldwell will bring more midfield depth and can also line up in the forward line, playing a similar role to Durham.

Rising star Archie Roberts will be huge for his run and foot skills, while Jeremy Howe brings a much-needed height boost in the backline. Beau McCreery will also provide some spark in the forward line, creating pressure and energy.

Multiple players were stiff not to make the final squad with Jordan Ridley, Mason Redman, Lachie Schultz and Nic Martin; some did not make it due to longer-term injuries.
