Collingwood youngster Jakob Ryan will be sidelined for "several week" after suffering a hand fracture at training on Wednesday.
The 19-year-old will require further treatment on the recent setback and will meet with a surgeon in the coming days to best understand the full extent of his rehabilitation.
Ryan suffered a fracture to his fifth metacarpal in his left hand and will spend some time out of action due to the ailment.
Current Collingwood football boss Brendon Bolton confirmed the club will provide more information on Ryan's recovery in due course.
“This is minor setback for Jakob who injured his hand during a training drill on Wednesday,” Bolton said in a club update.
“Jakob is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. The Club will provide a further update on his injury timeline following consultation with his surgeon.”
Ryan has just entered his second season in the black and white, having been drafted in 2022 before earning an AFL debut last year against the Brisbane Lions in Round 23.
The young defender's maiden senior appearance was cut short by concussion.
Ryan's start to the 2024 season at VFL level has impressed, with the teenager averaging 20 disposals and 6.5 marks across the Magpies' opening two matches.
