Collingwood will be bolstered by the return of Brody Mihocek for Friday night's clash against Melbourne, with Jeremy Howe also confirmed to take on the Demons.

Mihocek didn't feature for the Pies in Round 20's win over Port Adelaide due to a hip injury, but is expected to run out on Friday night.

Howe, however, did play last weekend but spent the final term on the bench after suffering a corked upper leg.

Collingwood coach Craig McRae confirmed that the 32-year-old would be right for the top-four clash .

"They'll play," McRae told media on Thursday.

"We were confident after training the other day that they'd get up, so they'll be available."

McRae also confirmed that Brodie Grundy is unlikely to run out in the VFL as he deals with an ankle issue.

The Pies ruckman returned in the VFL last weekend after suffering a PCL injury in Round 6, but those at Collingwood remain confident that the 28-year-old will play senior footy in the coming weeks.

"He didn't train this morning. We were hoping he would get up and train with the VFL this morning and he didn't do that," McRae said.

"I would say that he is probably unlikely to play VFL this week. We'll assess over the weekend."

"I was happy with the minutes he played in the VFL. He just pulled up sore. Obviously we don't want that; we want him to be fresh and vibrant and bring his best energy," he said.

"We'll just have to assess over the weekend. Hopefully he pulls up from that and then we can progress from there. His knee is fine, he's just getting a little bit of ankle soreness, which we are monitoring."

Collingwood will clash with the Demons at the MCG at 7:50pm (AEDT) on Friday night, with their 22-man squad to be confirmed on Thursday night at 6:20pm (AEDT).
