A repeat of last year's semi-final between the Pies and Giants will headline the opening weekend of the 2019 finals series, according to Champion Data.

Champion Data has looked at each side's run home for the remainder of the season, and has predicted where each side will finish at the end of round 23.

Before we get to the top eight, here's one for Carlton fans; Champion Data believes the Blues will finish above the Suns and avoid the wooden spoon.

Geelong is set to finish in first place, and are far and away the favourites to win the minor premiership.

Collingwood (78% top four chance) and GWS (80%) are set to battle it out for top spot, with Champion Data believing the Pies should just do enough to earn home ground advantage when the two sides meet in an elimination final.

The race for fourth will be close, with Adelaide and West Coast both a 50% chance to finish inside the top four.

According to Champion Data, the Crows will do enough to earn the double chance.

The Eagles will join Brisbane with home elimination finals, although the Lions will have a tough match-up on their hands, as they'll host Richmond, who haven't lost at the Gabba since 2004.

West Coast and Port Adelaide will do battle in an elimination final once again, with the two sides playing out some unbelievable finishes in recent years.

Champion Data's predicted first week of finals

Geelong (1st) v Adelaide (4th)

Collingwood (2nd) v GWS Giants (3rd)

West Coast (5th) v Port Adelaide (8th)

Brisbane Lions (6th) v Richmond (7th)
