Joel Selwood has agreed to a one year contract extension which will see him go around again for the Cats in 2022.

The three time premiership player has been superb again this season averaging 24 disposals and 11.9 contested possessions per game.

Geelong General Manager Simon Lloyd said that Selwood's 2021 form had more than warranted a new deal for the skipper.

“While Joel’s record speaks for itself, what is most important to him and the team is that he continues to play at such a high level. He has been among our best players all season and has continued to show his durability and passion for the game," said Lloyd.

“Joel is an icon of our club, and of the game, and we are excited to have reached agreement for Joel to play in 2022.”

The extension will allow the Geelong captain to pass Corey Enright's club record of 332 games and finish his career as the club's record game holder.

Selwood has held a pivotal role at Geelong in the last decade leading the Cats a record 215 times in the past ten seasons.

“Joel has always epitomised team-first, and he continues to do all he can to make the team and the club successful," Lloyd went on to say in a statement.
