Carlton have signed young ruckman Hudson O'Keeffe via the Supplemental Selection Period, as we near its final deadline.

O'Keeffe, a a 202cm ruck prospect, impressed for the Oakleigh Chargers and Vic Metro in the lead up to last year's NAB AFL and Rookie Drafts, but was overlooked, instead tasked with finding an AFL contract through the SSP.

Prior to his signing with the Blues, O'Keeffe had spent his summer training at Tullamarine in order to gain an AFL lifeline under new Bombers coach Brad Scott, but was passed on earlier in the month.

Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin said the club had been impressed with the 18-year-old and was thrilled to welcome him to the club.

โ€œHudson impressed us with his ability to not only win hit-outs, but also get the ball away effectively from stoppages through his physicality and competitiveness โ€“ all strengths we think will add to an exciting mix in our rucks,โ€ Austin said to club media.

โ€œHudson will work closely with our ruck coach Matthew Kreuzer as he gets to work, building and improving his ruck craft.

โ€œWe're also keen to make him a more well-rounded player which will come over time, so we'll invest in his development and we're thrilled to have him as part of the Blues.โ€

The Blues also confirmed that Sam Philp has been placed on the inactive list, leaving them with one list spot remaining.

With his signature at Carlton, O'Keeffe now joins Oleg Markov as SSP picks on Friday. Markov, the former Richmond and Gold Coast defender, signed with Collingwood after initially being linked to the Blues.
