Carlton's confidence of landing GWS star Stephen Coniglio is growing by the day, according to SEN's Sam McClure.

The Blues have long been linked to Coniglio, who is out of contract with the Giants at the end of the season.

McClure believes the Blues will be a prominent participant in the annual trade period later this year with Sydney's Tom Papley and Gold Coast's Jack Martin also linked with the club.

“Will the Swans back themselves to get a first-round draft pick back if Carlton so desire Tom Papley?” asked McClure on SEN's Time On program.

It is thought the Blues will not heavily pursue Papley and Martin until all avenues to land Coniglio are exhausted.

"The Blues can’t work on any more deals, like the one they have for Gold Coast’s Jack Martin, until they hear from Stephen Coniglio," said McClure.

"I wonder if anyone has heard from 'Cogs', by the way?"

Coniglio has enjoyed a productive season with the Giants, averaging just under 27 disposals per game.

The 25-year-old may miss the rest the rest of the season with a knee injury he sustained in Round 18 against the Tigers.
