Carlton father-son prospect Cody Walker will don Echuca's green guernsey for the final time - for now - on Sunday in the Murray Bombers' Goulburn Valley League Grand Final with Shepparton.
Walker is expected to push for the coveted Pick 1 spot in this year's national draft after completing a stunning junior football career.
The fleet-footed and tough midfielder has been playing senior football for Echuca, a powerhouse in the GVL, since 2024 when he played four games as a 16-year-old.
Walker has played one match for Echuca this year in Round 15 against reigning premier Kyabram; he featured in the best.
The 18-year-old is the son of beloved high-flying Blue Andrew Walker who played 202 games for Carlton before moving to the Murray River town of Echuca to live in, play for and coach the Murray Bombers.
Sunday's clash between Echuca and Shepparton at Deakin Reserve will be Walker's last game before he prepares for the national draft in November.
Walker is expected to be bid on within the first three picks of the draft such is his talent. The Blues are currently working on how they can acquire enough draft picks to match the bid for the young star.
Echuca won a three peat of GVL flags from 2022-24 before Kyabram claimed the 2025 premiership.
The Murray Bombers beat the Bears by 30 points in the Qualifying Final.
The last time the two sides met in a Grand Final was 2024 when Echuca demolished Shepparton on its home deck of Deakin Reserve, the same ground that will be used this Sunday, to the tune of 96 points.
