Carlton has completed its list for the 2023 AFL season, signing Alex Cincotta on the final day of the Pre-season Supplemental Selection Period.

Cincotta, 26, is no stranger to Princes Park, having plied his trade for Carlton's VFL side 21 times across the past two seasons.

The former Geelong VFL player has joined Michael Voss' ranks as a replacement for the injured Zac Williams after the dasher went down with a torn ACL earlier this month.

The paperwork for Cincotta's elevation was confirmed by AFL House at 4:45pm (AEDT).

While perennially passed over for an opportunity at AFL level, Cincotta has proven his wares at the state league level, averaging 20.3 disposals and 2.6 during his days in the Blues' reserves side.

Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin paid due note of Cincotta's patience, stressing the newest Blue had earned his spot on the list.

“After a superb season in the reserves last year, we are delighted to elevate Alex onto the AFL list,” Austin said in a club statement on Wednesday afternoon.

“Alex will work closely with our defensive group, building on his craft and developing his skills even further.

“He's a mature-age player, who already understands our system and has played with a lot of our group, so we're excited for Alex and pleased we've been able to provide him with an opportunity.”

Cincotta has the skillset to roll through the middle of the ground, however, with Williams now absent for the entirety of the 2023 season, and Sam Docherty having spent portions of the summer training as a midfielder, if a birth at senior level is to arise for Cincotta, it will likely come off half-back.

Carlton will feature in a pair of pre-season fixtures against Collingwood (Princes Park) and Sydney (Blacktown International Sports Ground) before turning their focus to rivals Richmond in the duo's annual Round 1 encounter.
