As per Dale Thomas' request, Carlton have agreed to remove a clause in his contract pertaining to his playing future.

The clause was believed to be a games total that would trigger a contract extension for Thomas in 2018, with the magic number for Daisy reportedly set at 15 games.

With Thomas' contract dominating the headlines in recent weeks, the 29-year-old approached Carlton management after being dropped to the VFL two weeks ago, and asked for the clause to be removed.

“Acknowledging that we as a club do not publicly comment on the nature of player contracts, Dale has selflessly put the club first in this situation,” Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni said.

“Pleasingly for Dale, he will now be able to go out and play football without the constant, external commentary around the nature of his contract.”

This season is Thomas' fourth at Carlton, and the midfielder has player 48 times for the Blues since making the move from Collingwood at the end of the 2013 season.
