Triple M commentator Nathan Brown believes the Pies shouldn't bother playing Daniel Wells at all anymore, suggesting it will go against the future the club are trying to build.

Wells has only played 10 out of a possible 25 games for the Pies since making the switch from North Melbourne, although the midfielder only lost two games from his 10 appearances in 2017.

However, Brown believes Collingwood don't need him, and they should instead play younger players who could be part of their next premiership side.

“I don’t think so. I don’t think they need Daniel Wells," Brown told The Rush Hour on Wednesday.

"I don’t think he’s going to be part of the next premiership or the next finals series. I think they need to start blooding the younger players.

"You can’t rely on Daniel Wells to play week in, week out.

"When he is in the team, yes, he’s a very good quality player.

"I see him missing more footy than not. I think it disrupts what they are as a footy club."

Wells still hasn't played for the Pies in 2018, and is still yet to make his return at VFL level.
