If Brisbane premiership gun Zac Bailey departs, the Lions have a contingency plan in place: Western Bulldogs forward Arthur Jones.
Bailey is still weighing up a life-changing offer from Adelaide, or the familiarity of location, teammates and club to remain in Queensland.
Staff and players from Brisbane have remained optimistic the midfield-forward will re-sign.
"I feel optimistic about Zac, to be honest. I don't know why I do, but I do. I know he loves being here," Lions coach Chris Fagan said in July.
Bailey said earlier in the year he wanted to remain at the Lions, but it is understood it would be for less money.
But the intrigue around the in-form, yet out-of-contract Bulldog in Jones has the Lions organising a plan B, according to The Agenda Setters.
Essendon and West Coast are keen on the small forward's services as well.
In a bid to warn off rivals, the Bulldogs have tabled a three-year deal on a lucrative deal.
Jones has produced a breakout year after tending to injuries throughout the past few seasons. He's played 16 games and has kicked 17.15, whilst averaging 11.3 disposals, 2.9 marks and 2 tackles.
He has been a bargain pickup for the Dogs, who took Jones with Pick 43 from Claremont, WA, in the 2021 national draft.
