Hawthorn captain Ben Stratton has been sent directly to the AFL Tribunal for "serious misconduct" against Essendon's Orazio Fantasia on Friday night, as well as stomping on Shaun McKernan in the final term of the match.

Stratton repeatedly pinched Fantasia throughout the contest, with the Bombers forward leaving the ground after the final siren with bruises on his arm.

The Hawthorn skipper will need to answer two cases at the Tribunal, and has also been fined $1000 for an obscene gesture during the second term.

Hawthorn's Jarman Impey was the only other player charged in the game, and can accept a $2000 sanction for striking Zach Merrett.
